ELEGY SERIES
My intention is to provoke an uneasy visual tension where the viewer struggles to make sense of the material. Are these actual aerial views of melting glaciers? Fact versus fiction is in play.
The images are scanned enlargements of particular areas of painting experiments out of my imagination, based on the geological knowledge I have garnered through study and witnessing on the many polar expeditions I have taken. They serve as Elegies - naming and memorializing melting glaciers and locations all threatened by climate change throughout the world.
